ANOTHER CHAMPIONSHIP PODIUM RESULT FOR NICHOLAS D’ORLANDO AT THE COLD STONE FLORIDA WINTER TOUR
April 1, 2015

It was another championship podium for Nicholas d’Orlando and almost another top ten for Michael d’Orlando, as d’Orlando Racing capped off their 2015 Cold Stone Florida Winter Tour Powered by MAXSpeed Rotax Max Challenge championship in Ocala, FL last weekend. Nicholas would earn his second podium finish of the three-month series with a third place in Sunday’s Mini Max final, earning him a Third Place overall in the Florida Winter Tour Rotax Max Challenge Mini Max points championship series, and his second championship podium for the Florida Winter Tour two series event. Older brother Michael would finish up his rookie Rotax Junior Max campaign with an impressive 7th place finish in Sunday’s Rotax Junior final showing he’s one of the top rookies in the class with an 11th place overall for the points series.

Nicholas went into the third & final round of the Florida Winter Tour Rotax Max Challenge looking for a win and he would once again show his consistency to remain as one of the top drivers in the field. All weekend long throughout qualifying sessions and heat races Nicholas would be in the hunt. He would overcome some adversities but still kept the focus, composure & patience he has shown all season long, through the entire race weekend, keeping his eye on a championship weekend win.

"Going into this weekend I was focused on getting a win”, said Nicholas. “My KoeneUSA Tony Kart was fast all weekend. I had some hick-ups early on but did not let it distract me. I tried really hard to get a win but I am still proud to end up with a solid podium finish” .

Nicholas would earn solid top finishes in Saturday’s heats putting him to start his No. 115 Tony Kart in 9th position for Sunday’s Pre-Final, and eventually making his way up four more spots to finish fifth place, putting him within striking distance for the Final.

Nicholas would again keep himself in the hunt for a win for the Championship final race. He began the Mini Max final outside row two on the starting grid, after post pre-final race technical inspections were completed. Nicholas would waste little time taking his No. 115 Tony Kart to the 3rd slot by lap 7. Nicholas would do all he could while working with fellow competitor, Canadian Matthew Latifi, to close the gap on the leader that formed early on in the race. Although the gap was a little too much for the win, Nicholas’ third place finish would be the points he needed to collect his second Florida Winter Tour championship points series podium with Third Place in the 2015 Florida Winter Tour Rotax Mini Max Championship.

Michael’s championship weekend in the Rotax Junior Max class would prove once again that he was one of the top rookies in the field. His Saturday heat races results earned him a 9th starting position for Sunday’s pre-final. Michael shined in Sunday’s Rotax Junior Max final once again proving to be another strong race day for him as he drove his No.257 Tony Kart to a 7th place finish, at one point as far up as 4th spot, earning him 11th place overall for the 2015 Florida Winter Tour Rotax Junior Max championship points series and one of the top rookies on a list of seasoned competitors.

Both Michael and Nicholas will be back in race action again at the first round of the United States Pro Kart Series on April 24 – 26 at the GoPro Motorplex in Mooresville, NC.
