It was one hot weekend for Nicholas d’Orlando at the Rotax Summer Shootout in Kershaw, SC as he dominated the Mini Max field at Carolina Motorsports Park. He was the driver to beat as he had the fastest kart in the field all weekend long.

Nicholas kicked off the weekend top of the charts in qualifying on Saturday and finished the pre-final in second while earning the fastest lap of the race honors. He would start the feature on the outside of the front row but luck would not be on his side as he got caught up in a wreck on the very first lap sending him to the tail of the field. Watching the rest of the drivers pull away, Nicholas pulled out of the race and off the race track on lap 12, an effort to save his tires for Sunday’s events. His day would end without the checkered flag but despite his early exit, Nicholas would still, once again, set fast lap before exiting to the pits.

Back at it again on Sunday, Nicholas started off dominant again putting his No.115 Tony/Kart on the pole and continued to earn fast lap honors in every session. After taking the pre-final victory by 5 seconds, Nicholas would then take the lead from the green flag in the final race and would not look back leading every lap to take the dominating win.

“It was great to win here at Carolina Motorsports Park,” said Nicholas. “I had a strong kart all weekend. I just wanted to keep doing what we have been doing running up front and to close on the opportunity to win. We also gained a lot of important information and track time that we can use in the up-coming Cold Stone US Rotax Grand Nationals coming in three weeks here.”

With this past weekend’s race dubbed as the ‘Unofficial Tune-up’ for the 2015 Cold Stone US Rotax Grand Nationals, Nicholas will be returning to the same track layout that they ran last weekend in three short weeks for the up-coming Grand National event on August 8th-9th at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, SC.
