NMichael d’Orlando finished his rookie campaign season in Juniors with an impressive 23rd place finish battling over 70 of the best competitors from around the world in the Superkarts! USA Supernationals XIX at the Las Vegas Convention Center. Michael’s never-give-up attitude showed all weekend long, as well as season long.

Michael kicked off his race weekend on Thursday by qualifying his No. 57n KoeneUSA prepared Tony/Kart in 34th position. Although his qualifying result was disappointing, after the 71 kart international field was sorted into 4 groups based on the Qualifying results, Michael would start all three heat races in the 9th row and finish up the day in eleventh in heat 1. Friday would continue to test his adversity when he ran into trouble early in Heat 2 and ultimately would finish 26th. Back at it again in Heat 3, his 13th place finish in the heart of the battle was just enough to avoid the Last Chance Qualifiers on Saturday afternoon, and advance directly into the feature event on Super Sunday in the 32nd slot.

With a field of 40 competitors on the grid for Super Sunday’s final events, this was going to be quite a battle in what proved to be one of the most exciting classes to watch. Michael knew he had to run a smart, clean race. He kept to his game plan keeping his No. 57n KoeneUSA prepared Tony/Kart consistent and out of harms way and was successful in avoiding a multiple kart incident in the opening laps. As he continued his drive forward through the field he would then get collected by contact from another incident mid-race which would hinder his progress and send him back down the order. But he pushed forward once again in the remaining few laps to regain back a few positions to ultimately finish 23rd.

“It was a hard fought weekend”, said Michael. “This was a tough field. I would not give up and I worked hard. We had a good kart and I did the best I could but our goal is to always try to finish on the podium. I have learned a lot this year and am proud of my rookie season in Junior. I will keep working hard to get better and look forward to moving into 2016 with the valuable experience from my first year in Junior. I am excited.”
