Nicholas d’Orlando shined in the bright lights of Las Vegas once again as he took home an impressive sixth place finish, after recovering from a first turn incident, at the Superkarts! USA Supernationals XIX, showing once again why he is one of the best drivers in the field and one of the best in the cadet ranks all season long.

Nicholas put his No. 051n KoeneUSA prepared TonyKart in the top three all week long, starting with a strong qualifying effort on Thursday with the third fastest time. As the field of eighty-three drivers from around the globe were sorted into 4 groups based on the Qualifying results, Nicholas would start outside the front row for two of the heats races and the pole position for the final heat race. Crossing the line in the second spot for all 3 heats, including fastest lap honors in Heat 2, and eventually elevated to a victory after post-tech driving penalties were awarded in Heat 3, Nicholas’ solid performances set him at the top of the grid and the pole position for Super Sunday’s feature event.

Leading the pack of the 43 drivers earning their right to compete in Super Sunday, Nicholas would take the green flag and a strong start, with fellow American Sam Mayer tight on his tail. Unfortunately, as they battled for the inside line in the opening corner, Mayer went in too deep pushing Nicholas out way wide and almost into the barriers, dropping both of them down the order. Nicholas would rebound back with an incredible performance working his way up from 16th spot towards the front. With the lead packs too far ahead to recover for the win, he would not falter to gain back 10 spots finishing with an impressive sixth place finish on one of the world’s largest stages.

“We had a good chance to win this race. Unfortunately, the battle into the first turn didn’t work out well” said Nicholas. “It’s too bad. We had such a fast kart all weekend and we were confident with at least a podium finish. It is very disappointing but that is part of racing. I am proud of how hard we worked and we did all we could to still finish sixth. I made my way back up the field. I had a great season and I look forward to 2016 as I move into the Junior ranks.”

Nicholas’ performance at the Superkarts! USA Supernationals XIX sealed an incredible final year in the Cadet ranks of karting. He looks forward to kicking off the 2016 season in the junior ranks for drivers ages 13-15.
