After a three month hiatus from the race track, Michael d'Orlando is finally back in a race car with the Road to Indy ("RTI") driver development program. As various states begin to reopen throughout the country, the RTI and the NTT Data IndyCar series are getting back into action.

On Monday, June 29th, d'Orlando took the 8-hour road trip from Hartsdale, NY to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH for a single day on track to participate in the official test day in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship series, part of the Road to Indy driver development program. This was the first official day for drivers to get back into their Tatuus USF-17 race cars since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down all racing action on March 13th, at the season opening event in St Petersburg, FL.

Back in the seat with his Indiana-based Cape Motorsports team, d'Orlando found himself in the top four of all three sessions in which he participated, including the top time in the second session. Ultimately, at the end of the day, d'Orlando had earned the fastest lap time of the entire event amongst all 19 competitors, and is now looking to take that momentum in the season opener next week at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

Stay tuned for racing action to resume next week!
