It was another trip to the podium for Michael d'Orlando, in the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship series at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH. After five rounds of the Road to Indy program, the 18-year-old Hartsdale, NY native currently sits second in the overall series points championship standings.

The two-day triple-header event at Mid-Ohio consisted of only a single practice session before jumping right into competition. Leading off the event with a fourth place qualifying effort, d'Orlando maintained a solid performance in his DB Collaborative/Focused Project Management #4 Cape Motorsports race car and finished in the same position for Race 1.

A challenging qualifying session for Race 2 left d'Orlando with a disappointing 16th place spot on the starting grid. However, his long career in motorsport has shown him to be a driver with limitless perseverance, and ultimately he would go on to earn "Hard Charger" honors by moving up to 10th place and securing a handful of championship points. Additionally, his race pace and efforts would also earn him a third place starting position for the third and final race later that same day.

For Race 3, d'Orlando knew he needed to make the most out of his second row starting position and when the green flag flew, he made quick work and moved himself into the second slot mid-way through the opening lap. This move proved crucial since Mid-Ohio is known to be very difficult to pass. He continued to maintain his position throughout the race, and ultimately earning his second 2nd-place podium result of the 2020 Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship season. These results move him to second place in the driver 's 2020 Championship series.

"We had our share of challenges at the start, I believe", states d'Orlando. "but it was great to work together with the team (Cape Motorsports) to keep focused on setup, and I continue to learn more. My run up from 16th to 10th gave me a little boost of confidence which helped leading into the last race. We're still in the hunt for the championship and it feels really good right now. I’m super excited for the next race."

Due to the rising numbers of COVID cases in Ohio, the next event originally scheduled for August 9th-11th, along with the Honda Indy 200, is to be postponed until a later date. The next event on the schedule will take place in coordination with the Indy500 on August 20th and 21st at the oval circuit of Lucas Oil Raceway, just minutes up the road from the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
