Countless hours of hard work, blood, sweat and tears... for a feeling he'll never forget. Ever! The first victory in a race car is in the books for Michael d'Orlando.

Coming off a disappointing week at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Michael d'Orlando returned to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the 10th, 11th and 12th rounds of the Cooper Tire USF2000 Championship series. The three-day event may have gotten off to a rocky start, but ultimately d'Orlando's performance in the three main events stole the show with two Hard Charger awards, a second place finish and his first victory in the Road to Indy.

d'Orlando's weekend began on Friday with a third place qualifying effort for Race 1, thus setting the stage for an epic start to the three main events on Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately however, an incident in the second qualifying session later that afternoon, for Race 2, provided a challenge. Ultimately, it was a challenge d'Orlando and his team at Cape Motorsports was ready to take on.

The incident required the full force of the Cape Motorsports team to work well into the night. But these efforts made the results of Race 1 on Saturday morning that much sweeter. Quickly jumping out to the lead in the opening corners, d'Orlando would lead the entire 20 lap race and cruised to the checkered flag for his first win in a race car.

"I am super happy to get my first win", states d'Orlando. "The guys [at Cape] helped pull it all together after the incident in Qualifying 2 but I felt so confident in the race car. I just knew we had the car to perform. It is an incredible feeling that I will never forget."

The victory was a complete up-turn in momentum. The lingering effect of the second qualifying session placed d'Orlando in a 15th place qualifying spot for Race 2. However, d'Orlando put on an impressive display moving through the field to earn another Hard Charger honor by moving up 8 positions to finish 7th. And then that momentum continued into Race 3 on Sunday when d'Orlando turned his 7th place starting position into the highlight of the event. Taking the lead for five laps mid-way, it was a battle in the closing laps and ultimately another second place finish, and his fourth podium of the season.

"I really feel that this weekend was a big success and I'm so proud of how the team and I worked together.", continues Michael d'Orlando. "We're looking forward to carrying this momentum into New Jersey next month."

The Road to Indy and the Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship series continues with rounds 13, 14 and 15 when they descend upon New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, NJ on October 9 - 11, 2020. This will be the first time the series has competed in the North East in almost a decade, and is the perfect opportunity for our local fans to see the action first hand. The 3-day triple header is open for spectators.
