In his car racing season debut, it was no small feat to bring home 12 victories, 18 podiums and a track record in the Formula Race Promotions F1600 series.  It was series domination with a 50% winning percentage and an incredible effort to bring home more wins in a single season than any other driver in the series' 27 year history.  Congratulations to NICHOLAS D’ORLANDO  - the 2021 Formula Race Promotions F1600 series Champion!

d’Orlando ascended onto the scene at Pittsburgh International Raceway in Wampum, PA this past weekend, for the final round of the 2021 Formula Race Promotions F1600 series.  With the Drivers’ Championship pretty much already wrapped up, his focus would remain set on his driver development and more victories and podiums.  And he was almost perfect.

Kicking off the weekend’s racing, d’Orlando set the fastest time in the Qualifying session Saturday morning in rain-soaked conditions.  And then followed that up with a dominating victory, his 11th of the season, leading all laps from green flag to checkered, and also taking the fastest lap of the session.  This put him on Pole Position again for Race 2 the next morning, which resulted in a similar story.  He jumped out to an early lead on the mixed conditions track, and again he dominated the session by leading all laps from green flag to checkered and set the fastest lap once again for his 12th victory of the season.  Despite another pole position for Race 3 that afternoon, and taking the lead in a tight drafting group for the first few laps of the race, an unfortunate on-track incident with d'Orlando and another competitor forced a temporary stop in racing action, and he would watch the remainder of the event from the sidelines.  But his weekend performance would ultimately put him in the record books.  His 12th victory of the season earned him top honors as the driver to win the most races in a single season in FRP F1600 history.

“Round two of Pittsburgh was definitely a dominating season finale.” states d’Orlando.  “I had my most dominating victory of over 17 seconds and qualified pole for race 3 by over two seconds. We clearly established dominance in the mixed weather conditions. Despite a minor power issue we attended to throughout the weekend, the Team Pelfrey machine was on rails for sure. I was hoping for the clean sweep weekend and to win the race three but I suppose I can’t ask for too much. I’m extremely happy with our result this last weekend and of course for the entire season.”

d’Orlando’s statistics for the season are quite impressive.  Especially for a rookie in any form of car racing and after sitting on the sidelines for the past two years since his karting career ended in 2018.  He chaulked up 12 victories and 18 podiums in 24 events of the FRP series – that’s an impressive 75% podium result.  His performance also earned him approximately $9000 in prize money.  And he’s just getting started.

“We did it! Mission accomplished and I’m now a champion. It’s been an absolutely incredible season from start to finish with Team Pelfrey. The nonstop work behind the scenes and on track clearly proved to be unmatched. I am obviously happy with my results and now I look on to the future and keep striving for more. I’d like to thank Geoff and Jessica Bushor, my mechanic Matt Hilton and also TVD [Tony Van Dongen] for his assistance. Along with that I thank my family, friends and teammates for pushing me forward each and every weekend on track. I couldn’t have asked for much more this year as far as learning and results go. This season has well prepared me for what’s to come. “
